Every passionate rider will agree that the bike you ride defines who you are. Modifying a bike is not just about maintenance or making it more appealing or fast – it’s about expressing yourself.

Mila Motors is a motor vehicle servicing, repairing and revamping company for affordable makeovers.

The founding couple, Sarah and Yusuf started their business from home, and after 2 years of service moved to their current shop.

The Beginning of a Dream

“Since I was a little girl, my love for motorbikes has been huge. I guess it's in my blood as my father used to race and play on the track all the time!” said Sarah

Her husband Yusuf remembers receiving a quote of SGD 700 - 800 for a single colour coverset, which would be completed in 2 – 4 weeks! He said, “I had a bike and I loved projecting it myself as shops always overcharge for change of colours/design”. Eventually he and Sarah sprayed the coverset by themselves and were impressed by the results.

Fuelled by their passion for motorbikes and the aim to provide motor vehicle services at affordable prices, they started their humble venture by posting advertisements for their services on Carousell and Instagram; and eventually their clientele grew by word of mouth.

While Sarah focuses on the Customer Service & Design part of the job, Yusuf is the Technician – and together they achieve the best results for their customers.

One-Stop Destination for your Motor Vehicle

The couple has worked on around 400 bikes till date.

Yusuf recalled some of his proudest works being revamping of a Yamaha 15 V3 in custom Redbull design with custom mix red rims for a social media influencer. He said, “We are actually more than happy when we receive designs that challenge us, as the outcome is really satisfying.”

Resource Limitations

“Before getting our own shop, we worked from home and space was limited. Then we got a complaint from the Town Council which pushed us to rent a small space from a friend. However, as the space was small, it limited us from achieving our full potential”, Sarah said while reminiscing the earlier days of their venture.

The duo had already used most of their savings to purchase a wide range of products needed for vehicle makeovers, but needed external financing to help them better establish their venture. They needed to bulk purchase popular colours of spray cans, which proved to be an expensive affair.

Eventually they managed to get a loan from IFS Capital Ltd and were grateful for the much-needed boost. As a result, they were able to set up their new shop in Jurong West this December and will now be able to open more slots for booking of their services.

COVID 2020

While most SMEs have been having a tough time this year with the pandemic, especially those in travel, tourism and hospitality sectors, others have had their fair share of ups and downs.

“It was challenging to obtain our paint stock in from overseas, as shipping was impossible for a period of time.

The upside is that since people cannot travel overseas and have been facing ongoing restrictions, vehicle makeovers are something they are keen on, just to have something positive to look forward to - which we are glad to be able to provide!”, said Yusuf smiling.

The Road Ahead

With the recent funding boost from IFS Capital, and their move to a new, bigger location, the couple is excited for the future. They plan to expand the range of services that are currently being offered, to bring in lots of accessories and add on services like bike wash and detailing.
